The Office on Child Abuse and Neglect, Children's Bureau, is now accepting abstract submissions for the 19th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN), the nation’s leading training and technical assistance event for practitioners, policy makers, advocates, and researchers. The 19th NCCAN, April 29 – May 2, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana, will focus on the connections between research, practice and policy in a wide variety of subject areas related to our theme of Making Meaningful Connections.  We will also celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA).

We know we must learn from our shared past, including the rich history of 40 years of CAPTA, in order to build our shared future. We also know that being in New Orleans together – a city that symbolizes resiliency – can only enhance our shared experience of being part of a community of individuals from many different disciplines and perspectives strongly connected to each other by our commitment to addressing child abuse and neglect.  As a community, we know that relationships are the fundamental building blocks for the meaningful connections essential to our goal of improving outcomes for children, families and communities.

The Children’s Bureau is committed to developing a comprehensive training and technical assistance program featuring the finest presentations and speakers the field has to offer. Some 3,000 in-person and virtual attendees are expected to participate in the 19th NCCAN from across the United States and around the world.

Abstracts will be accepted for workshops, skills seminars, policy forums, research panels and poster presentations.  We are searching for presenters who represent diverse backgrounds, roles, responsibilities, and experiences related to the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and neglect to address a wide range of topics of interest and importance to the field.

The conference is designed for child abuse and neglect prevention and child protection workers, supervisors and administrators, social workers, educators, those in law enforcement and the courts, in health care and public health, therapists, researchers, child advocates, parents and others committed to ensuring the safety, permanency, and well-being of children.
